my Mom and my Grandmother

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day in some parts of the world, here in France it happens to be the end of May.  I’ve never written a Mother’s Day post, thought about it many times, but as it’s such a large and important topic I wasn’t sure I could do it justice.

As I was thinking of writing something for a post, and digging through my pictures I was naturally thinking about my mom, and how she shaped my world in countless ways, which then led me to think about her mom and how she shaped my mother’s.  I’ve really been thinking about my Grandmother Brewer this evening. She was an exceptional woman, and as grandmothers often strive to do, she naturally made everything just a little more “extra special”.  She was stubborn, hard-working, passionate and quick to laugh at herself.

I have many beautiful memories of her, but one of my most special memories was our correspondence through letters.  My grandmother was great about writing me letters, and we kept that up for many years and through my adult life. She’s the one who taught me to always have something planned ahead to look forward to, no matter how small. Most of our letters included lists of all the things we had to look forward to and why. She was an incredibly positive woman, kind of like my mom! They are so much alike, maybe not so much in how they look, but in their mannerisms and character; I notice that more as I get older and see my mother in me.

The photos I share are just a few of my favorite of my Grandmother and my Mom. Mom, I know you might read this, Happy Mother’s Day and I can’t wait to see you in 22 days!

and a Happy Mother’s Day to all Mothers!
